DVMISSION 2019, marked the 13th edition of this incredible 48-hour film challenge and as ever, it did not disappoint! With 14 awards up for grabs, this awards night of immersive cinema, theatre and killer short films, Pompey Drifter was a night to remember.
By Lucy Goodyear
“I look forward to DVMISSION like I look forward to a holiday. As an amateur filmmaker, it’s amazing fun to be challenged and to be forced to think outside the box. For me, winning best film is my Oscar; I’m super humbled by it. Although the best bit for me is seeing so many different takes on the same (not so) simple set of instructions. So much creativity, it’s inspiring”
(Tim Pritchard of What are the hours? Winners of Best Film Professional).
After a sea of swinging 60s costumes filled The Wedgewood Rooms on Saturday night, a turf war kicked off the evening. In a nod to the classic film noir, the opening immersive theatre performance directed by the talented John-Paul McCrohon, combined gang rivalry, political undertones and a shattering of the archetype femme fatale.
“A great job of highlighting the talent in Portsmouth on the screen and behind the scenes”
(Cecelia Young, Portsmouth Film Society).
It was inspiring to see how each team took on this year’s genre…1960’s Japanese Noir. A theme the event encapsulated perfectly, from the décor, designed by Ellie Day to those incredible awards created by Lawn of the Dead’s, James Waterfield. With each team’s unique interpretation of the given genre, line of dialogue and title, there was no shortage of ingenuity or imagination.
