You won’t want to miss our weekly 48-hour film challenge tips, leading up to the CHALLENGE WEEKEND.
Top Tip 8: Tell your audience, without telling them
A lot of the time, the background of a film or TV show can influence the narrative more than you think. It can tell you about the character themself, the period of time, the location and even foreshadow. To create successful productions, you need to learn how to read and interpret design to tell a story.
Take inspiration from the Central Perk coffee shop in Friends, where set decorator Greg Grande has called it the “seventh character on the show”. In Friends, there is an association that if one character is at Central Perk, the rest will also join and it is a big part of bringing the group together. A successful set takes the audience into the created reality and this should be one of your top priorities this CHALLENGE WEEKEND.
